Return to paradise
Just a month after our first Bird of Paradise (Strelitzia reginae) graced our garden with its very first set of elegant blooms, it's our second Bird of Paradise's turn to shine. And it's also its first time to bloom so it's another memorable event for us.
When Mom spotted two developing pointed shoots, she already knew that these aren't ordinary shoots, they won't be turning into leaves but something else, something more interesting.
A couple of weeks of waiting and the first flower bud opened to reveal its awesome 'feathers'.
And several days later the second flower bud unveiled its colorful 'plumes'. Ah, the Bird of Paradise... definitely one of my most treasured tropical plant in the garden.

Congratulations SR now that your plants are producing what you deserve. But i am sorry for you that you are not able to see them in person. It definitely is a different experience and feeling to see the blooms in its environment. I am sure they will prod you to come home more often! What happened to the eyesore wall?
MORE BIRDS TO COME!!!:)
bearHUGS...
This is so exciting. I'm not sure if BOP can bloom in my garden. Cheers to your lovely blooms!
I am now growing Arundina bamboo orchids, after seeing your previous post. Thanks for the encouragement and extra push ;>)
What gorgeous birds!!! They are costly here. I do not have this species in my garden. But I have just been given some seeds for some sort of bird flowering plant.
Hello Andrea,
Sadly I just need to be content looking at pictures of these plants, that's why I get frustrated when the pictures I get are not good...LOL. Still it doesn't beat looking at and touching them in person.
Ah the eyesore wall, the materials needed to fix it are there but it hasn't been touched yet. They may have to tear down part of that front wall to put a little curvature on it.

Hello Ely,
I'm with you, I'm wishing more birds (of paradise) to come. There are several that haven't flowered yet. They're still in plastic bag containers so maybe they won't produce blooms until they're transplanted.

Hello Autumn Belle,
Maybe you could try growing the BoP in your garden to see if it will produce flowers. Based on our experience, you may need to wait several years before it blooms. It took us 3 years of waiting.
I too have gotten a lot of ideas from your blog. And I thank you for it. That's what I like about reading other blogs, there's a ton of ideas one can learn and apply.

Hello One,
Thanks! They are costly in the Philippines too especially if you get the mature plant. The young ones are affordable, but it will cost you years of waiting (as we have learned) ... LOL
Now I'm curious as to what kind of bird-flowering plant the seeds you received will produce. I'll wait for the update :)
stunning birds! i love the color. happy gardening!
